NDT Intermediate Temperature Couplant
NDT Intermediate Temperature Couplant by Echo Ultrasonics has been drawing on over 50 years of experience in developing and manufacturing ultrasonic couplant' s, we are constantly expanding our couplant performance parameters to address unmet needs, improve operator safety and facilitate the ease of use of our products.
Since Echo was founded in 2012 we have developed:
- Z+ high acoustic impedance ambient temperature couplant
- VersaSonic® high-temperature couplant (-10 to 700°F) in medium and high viscosity
- EchoTherm™ Extreme with an operating range up to 1250°F (675°C) and an auto-ignition temperature above 1300°F
- EchoPure™, a water-free, water-soluble couplant, will not frost on parts nor freeze in extremely cold conditions (-60°F), ideal for hot welds up to 350°F
- UltraSoniX™, EchoTrack™, SoniX® formulations with no formaldehydes, glycol ether, nitrites and nitrates
- EchoMix® Single: single packet powder couplant
- AUT and Robotic Fluid Couplants with low cost, water solubility and broad operating ranges.
SuperSonix
SuperSonix is the best water-based high-performance couplant with a broad operating range and slow evaporation rate.
Looking for a slower evaporation rate, try EchoPure.
| Operating Range | -10° to 220°F (-23° to 104°C) |
| Viscosity | Medium flowable gel |
| Halogens and Sulfur | Less than 50 ppm |
| pH | 8.0 nominal at 20°C |
Compliance: ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (T-533), ASTM F519, NAVSHIPS 250-1500,Nuclear grade (less than 50 ppm Halogens & Sulfur)
EchoPure
EchoPure is the couplant of choice for Phased Array UT Inspection (PAUT). EchoPure improves defect reproducibility by eliminating dry spots under the wedge and the resulting noise and artifacts.
The most universal water-soluble | water-free UT couplant and the couplant of choice for Phased Array Manual UT inspection. Very Slow drying and ideal for cold and elevated temperature inspections.
EchoPure is an ideal couplant for very cold inspection (liquid gas piping and refrigerant lines) and will not frost or attenuate at temperatures as low as -60°F.
| Operating Range | -60°F to 350°F (-51°C to 176°C) |
| Viscosity | Low- fluid Medium -fluid High-stiff gel like fluid |
| Auto Ignition Temperature | 700°F / 371°C |
| Corrosion Characteristics | Meets ASTM F519 Very good |
| Halogens and Sulfur | Less than 50 ppm |
Compliance: ASTM F519, FAA-AC # 25-29 (glycerin-free), NAVSHIPS 250-1500, Nuclear grade (less than 50 ppm Halogens & Sulfur), P91 Steel Inspection – meets requirement for a water-free couplant, SME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (T-533)
Ultrasonix
Ultrasonix meets FAA Advisory Circular AC 25-29 which states: Procedures need to ensure glycerin is not used on aluminum materials, as it may cause corrosion.
UltraSoniX is a high-performance couplant, available in two viscosities: High viscosity couplant remains in place on vertical and overhead surfaces. Medium viscosity for spreading.
No glycerin is required for carbon fibre composites.
| Operating Range | 10°F to 220°F (-12°C to 104.4°C) |
| Viscosity | Medium (standard) ~60,000 cps, flowable gel High ~ 165,000 cps, stiff gel |
| Halogens and Sulfur | Less than 50 ppm |
| pH | 8.0 nominal at 20°C |
Compliance: ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (T-533), ASTM F519, Conforms to FAA Circular Advisory AC No: 25-29, NAVSHIPS 250 – 1500, Nuclear grade (less than 50 ppm Halogens & Sulfur)
Sonix
Sonix is slow drying for an extended inspection time.
Completely salt stable; will not thin with corrosion, marine environment, or highway infrastructure subjected to de-icing salts.
The best choice for a low cost general purpose ultrasonic couplant with a strong film strength that is slow drying.
Good ferrous corrosion inhibition; compatible with most metals, plastics, and composites.
Safety: environmentally benign.
Environment and operator-friendly – no formaldehyde, nitrates, or nitrites.
| Operating Range | 18°F to 120°F (-8°C to 50°C) for most flaw detection and thickness gaging applications. |
| Viscosity | Medium: 40,000 cps LVT Spindle 4 @ 6 rpm |
