Corrosion Pit Gauge Kits

Corrosion Pit Gauge Kits, are due to inspector requests, Western Instruments has created these kits for Specific Industries. From the most popular Vessel Inspectors Kit, to the Cylinder Inspectors Kit, through to our Digital Pipe Pit Gauge, Western has packaged a Kit for virtually all types of Corrosion Inspectors.

Vessel Inspector Kit N88-VI

N88-VI Vessel Inspectors Kit – includes Reaching Blade N88-5B, the Pocket Reversible Blade N88-4B and the Basic Blade N88-2B

  • Carrying Case
  • Dial Indicator
  • Reaching Blade (N88-5)
  • Pocket Blade (N88-4)
  • Basic Blade (N88-2)
  • Allan Key
  • Spare Contact Point

No matter which Blade the Dial indicator is installed on, all the components will fit inside the rugged Carrying Case.

The Reaching Blade is 4 ¾” (121mm) long, so it will deal with most Weight-Loss- Corrosion we see in Vessels and Tanks. As an option, we can substitute a Reaching Magnetic Blade (N88-5M), with powerful magnets, or a longer Reaching Plus Blade (N88-6) which is 6” (152mm) long. In any case, the cut-away nose, at the end of all Reaching Blades, allows the Gauge to measure right up to a Weld, Riser, or Re-Pad.

The Basic Blade will most often have the Dial Indicator installed on it, as the Basic Pit Gauge is by far the most popular Dial Indicator Pit Depth Gauge we offer. As illustrated to the right, no matter the Configuration of assembly, everything still fits into the rugged custom made carrying case.

Specified by a Senior Vessel Inspector, the Pocket Pit Gauge allows inspection on complex curvatures, such as the Knuckle Area on Vessel Heads, and even pump housings and impellers. As the name suggests, the Pocket Pit Gauge conveniently fits in your pocket (but then again so does the Basic Pit Gauge).

If you’re a Pipeline Corrosion Inspector, don’t let the name throw you off, as we offer the Pipeline Inspectors Kit (N88-PI) which is very similar, but the Reaching Blade is replaced by the Reaching Plus Blade. Either of these Pressure Equipment (API) Kits are a good start point before moving up to one of our Bridging Pit Gauges.

Pipeline Inspector Kit N88-PI

N88-PI Pipeline Inspectors Kit – includes Reaching Plus Blade N88-6B, the Pocket Reversible Blade N88-4B and the Basic Blade N88-2B

  • Carrying Case
  • Dial Indicator
  • Reaching Blade (N88-6)
  • Pocket Blade (N88-4)
  • Basic Blade (N88-2)
  • Allan Key
  • Spare Contact Point

No matter which Blade the Dial indicator is installed on, all the components will fit inside the Carrying Case.

The Reaching Plus Blade is 6” (152mm) long, so it will deal with larger pits, but can’t tackle large areas of Weight-Loss-Corrosion or Dents, like one of our Bridging Pit Gauges. As an option, we can substitute the Magnetic Reaching Plus Blade (N88-6MC) which is also 6” (152mm) long, with powerful magnets. In any case, the cut-away nose, at the Dial Indicator end of either of the Reaching Blades, allows this Gauge to measure right up to a Weld, Riser, or Re-Pad.

The Basic Blade will most often have the Dial Indicator installed on it, as the Basic Pit Gauge is by far the most popular Dial Indicator Pit Depth Gauge we manufacture. As illustrated to the right, no matter the Configuration of assembly, all of the parts fit easily into the metal carrying case.

Specified by a Senior Inspector, the Pocket Pit Gauge allows inspection on complex curvatures, such as the Knuckle Area on Vessels, and other complex curvatures, such as pump housings, valve bodies, impellers, turbine blades, etc. As the name suggests, the Pocket Pit Gauge conveniently fits in your pocket (but then again so does the Basic Pit Gauge).

If you’re a Vessel Inspector, don’t let the name throw you off, as we offer the Vessel Inspectors Kit (N88-VI) which has a Reaching Pit Gauge Blade. No matter the Kit you start with, it’s a good move toward purchasing one of our Bridging Pit Gauges.

Cylinder Inspector Kit N88-CI

N88-CI Cylinder Inspectors Kit – includes Reaching Plus Blade N88-6 and Pocket Reversible Blade N88-4

  • Carrying Case
  • Dial Indicator
  • Reaching Plus Blade (N88-6)
  • Pocket Blade (N88-4)
  • Allan Key
  • Spare Contact Point

The Reaching Plus Blade is 6” (152mm) long, so it will deal with most surface conditions encountered on the shell (or body) of a cylinder, as illustrated to the right. As an option, we can substitute a Reaching Plus Magnetic Blade (N88-6MB), with powerful magnets that hold the Reaching Plus Pit Gauge to the surface of Steel Cylinders. The cut-away nose, below the Indicator and at the end of all Reaching Blades, serves two purposes. First, it allows the operator to see the area being inspected, and secondly to allow measurements right up to Welds (LNG Tanks), or Reinforcing Pads

With the Dial indicator installed on The Pocket Blade, it is used for Inspecting areas with complex curvatures, such as the base or neck of the cylinder. The picture to the left, shows the Pocket Pit Gauge measuring the depth of the stamped identification lettering on the neck of a Nitrogen Cylinder. As the name suggests, the Pocket Pit Gauge conveniently fits in your pocket, unlike the Reaching Plus Pit Gauge.
